Qualified as a mining engineer in 1975 and was recommended by the State Examination Committee for the postgraduate education. From 1975 to 1978 — post-graduate student at the Department of Industrial Aerology and Occupational Safety at the Mining Faculty of the Tomsk Polytechnic University.

Area of research expertise:
25 years of research activities have been devoted to mine air and gas dynamics, mining ecology and physicochemical geotechnology of heat energy recovery from lignite by in situ combustion method.
Since 1979 worked as an assistant at the Department of Industrial Aerology and Occupational Safety at the Mining Faculty of the Tomsk Polytechnic University. In 1980 defended Candidate’s dissertation at the Leningrad Mining Institute on the specialty of Safety Engineering and Fire Prevention. In 1982 was voted to hold position of Associate Professor and obtained the rank of Associate Professor in 1983. In 1991 defended Doctor’s dissertation at the Tula Polytechnic Institute on the specialty of Occupational Safety and worked as Professor at the Mining and Construction Faculty of the Tula State University since 1993. Since 1990 he has been supporting cooperation with the leading experts of the Xian Mining University in China, Mining and Geology Faculty of the University of Belgrade in Yugoslavia (now Serbia) and the State University of New York at Albany in USA. Was engaged as an organizer in 9 international and 5 all-Russian conferences devoted to the issues of mineral prospecting and mining, ecologically efficient nature management and safe life activity. Acted as a research supervisor and executive officer in more than 20 R&D project supported by the governmental budget or under economic contracts, 3 interregional programs and in projects of science and technology in the framework of the Federal Targeted Program of Integration.
In 2011 was elected Dean of the Mining and Construction Faculty at the Tula State University.
Author of more than 400 scientific publications, including 14 monographs, 19 inventions and 10 educational textbooks.
Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation, winner of RF President’s prize in education in 2001 and RF Government prizes in science and technology in 1999 and 2002.
