FEATURES OF PULLING EQUIPMENT OPERATION IN CURVED RAILROAD SECTIONS



Improvement of transportation systems and their elements is one of the current focuses of research in the area of open pit mining. The article discusses development of self-propelling lifting units with a view to implementing successive formation of transportation systems in deep open pit mines based on motor transport and high-angle conveyors. An alternative drive is proposed for a self-propelling lifting unit using a friction-type puller with adjustable resistance pressure of drive wheels on rails and capable to operate on high-angle railroads. Particular attention is paid to the operation of the puller in curved railroad sections. Some theoretical questions connected with stabilization of gripping between puller traction wheels and rail in the curved sections are discussed, specifically, when the puller enters the curve. The relations between the cramp angle of the puller and the geometry of its main parts are obtained, and the recommendations on the design and computation of pulling equipment mechanisms without longitudinal sliding of traction wheels are given.
