COAL MINE DEGASIFICATION EFFICIENCY ENHANCEMENT TO IMPROVE WORKING CONDITIONS OF MINERS

Deeper level coal mining results in the higher rate of accidents and injuries of miners as a consequence of the considerable increase in natural gas content of coal beds. Methane input in underground excavations aggravates coal and methane outburst hazard. It becomes increasingly urgent to ensure safety of miners by the maintenance of mine air methane content within the enforced standard. In such conditions, gas emission control should include coordinated operation of ventilation, gas drainage and gas exhauster, i.e. they are to be assumed an integrated ventilation-and-degasification network as early as the mine planning and design stage. This day, the systems of ventilation, gas drainage and gas exhaust are designed, constructed and operated alone as the data on the efficiency of the integrated system reflective of mutual influence of the system components are absent. This is one of the major deficiencies of the current mine planning and design methodology in terms of methane emission control. Enhancement of gas drainage and exhaust efficiency is critical for labor safety and shortage of longwall mining equipment due to high gas content in mine air.
