AREAS OF DIVERSIFICATION FOR A MINING COMPANY



The article describes an approach to vitality of mining companies by means of diversification of activities. Three basic areas of diversification are identified. The first area is development of production along the technological chain up to the finished product with the expansion of the production range based on extracted minerals. The second area is mining-specific production—formation and management of man-made georesources. The third area is marketing of outsourcing services typical for the primary production. Advantages and disadvantages of diversification of mining companies are discussed as functions of the selected diversification area and the product. It is assumed that diversified mining with the expanded range of products and services and flexibility of change in the production output will enable reduction in mining cost, improve completeness of subsoil area use and enhance vitality of mining companies in the fluctuating market environment.
